Kirsten Algera

Kirsten Algera is a writer, curator and art-director based in Amsterdam. She is the Editor-in-Chief of MacGuffin Magazine, a design biannual with backstage information about the life of ordinary things. Each edition takes one object and explores the manifold stories it generates, uncovering the personal and sometimes curious relationships we have with the stuff that surrounds us. The magazine is based on the concept of 'situated knowledge' coined by biologist and philosopher Donna Haraway: knowledge production that is local and distinct, rather than neutral and universal. Its aim is to transcend the Eurocentric perspective and look at objects from different cultures, population groups and identities.
