Tracing Tastes: The Food Ecologies of ERBA
An introduction to Suzanne Bernhardt’s and Philipp Kolmann’s practice
ERBA is a more-than-human collective and trans-local food studio founded by Austrian designer Philipp Kolmann and Dutch artist Suzanne Bernhardt.
Tracing the roots and routes of different foods across histories, geographies and cultures, ERBA develops site-specific services, formats and frameworks to reimagine what and how we eat. ERBA tells edible stories that activate all senses and seek to inspire caring relationships between people and land.
As a more-than-human collective, ERBA fosters alliances between collaborators across species and disciplines to allow for the cross-pollination of perspectives and ideas. Evolving like an interdependent ecosystem based on mutual respect, nourishment and growth, ERBA offers time and space to linger, listen and learn - from the land and each other.
Beyond Matter
An introduction to Madalena Vidigal’s and Diogo Amaro’s practice
Diogo Amaro is an architect and cabinetmaker based in Porto. After several years working in architecture, he spent two years learning from the master cabinetmakers at FRESS, absorbing all the knowledge they had to transmit. In 2022, he participated in the Homofaber event in Venice and attended a workshop with Japanese master carpenter Takami Kawai and designer Wataru Kumanu at Domaine de Boisbuchet in France. He is currently developing MATERIA pieces.
Madalena Vidigal is an architect and independent researcher working across curation, publishing, and design. Her work expands the dialogue between research and practice, valuing legacy, communality, and sufficiency. With a Master at FAUP and an exchange at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, she has collaborated with several architectural studios while deepening her knowledge of ecological building techniques through hands-on experiences in Portugal and Morocco.
